Tour itinerary
The first day is for arriving in Alba, the capital of the Langhe. After your airport transfer, bike handover and a briefing with your guide, you set off on a welcome ride through the Roero, on the other side of the Tanaro river. The route passes through Guarene and Castagnito, among gentle hills and Arneis vineyards: a short loop, perfect for warming up your legs and getting to know the group. The scenery is softer and more open than in Barolo country, an ideal way to start slowly.
This is the day of the great viewpoints. From Alba you climb towards Verduno and La Morra, one of the most famous panoramic spots in the Langhe, then descend to Barolo, the village that gave its name to the wine. You ride among rows of Nebbiolo vines and pass through Grinzane Cavour, whose castle sits within the UNESCO landscape. The climbs are short but steady, and the descents offer views you will want to stop for. Your guide picks the quietest roads and the right place for lunch.
Today you ride through the Barbaresco heartland: elegant villages, vineyards as far as the eye can see, and roads that rise and fall at a steady rhythm. From Alba you reach Barbaresco, then Treiso and Neive, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. In Treiso, a tasting at the Lodali winery awaits, featuring wines of the area including Barbaresco and Barolo. This is where the ride truly meets the glass: you listen to the story of the winery and taste the labels at an unhurried pace, after the effort.
A pause halfway through the tour to rest your legs and discover another side of the Langhe. In the morning, visit a hazelnut producer to learn how the Piedmont hazelnut is grown and processed, the star of cakes, spreads and torrone, with a tasting of the products. The rest of the day is yours: stroll through Alba's historic centre, shop in the local boutiques, or simply relax before getting back on the bike.
Back in the saddle towards a quieter side of the Langhe, the Moscato hills. From Alba you pass through Neive and continue towards Mango, among steep vineyards and wide panoramas. The landscape changes: greener, softer, with very little traffic and an almost rural feel. For those with energy left, a longer option takes you to Santo Stefano Belbo, adding kilometres without losing any of the beauty.
The last ride is also the most spectacular: Serralunga d'Alba, Monforte d'Alba and Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Barolo zone. Villages perch on the hilltops, dominated by towers and castles; the climbs are short and steep, and the views stay with you. You ride at an easy pace, with the satisfaction of nearing the end of a great journey. In the evening, back in Alba, you celebrate with a farewell dinner and a special menu.
After breakfast, goodbyes and the journey home: transfer from the hotel to the airport, with the feeling of having cycled through the heart of the Langhe. If you would like to extend your stay, talk to us: we can help you arrange additional nights.
☀️ Climate & Best Time to Visit: The Langhe are at their best in spring (April–June), when the hills turn vibrant green and the vineyards are in full bloom, and in autumn (September–October), the golden season par excellence: harvest time paints the hills in countless shades of red and gold, while temperatures are perfect for cycling!
🍷 Local Food & Wine: The Langhe are synonymous with world-class food and wine excellence. This is where Barolo and Barbaresco are produced, the “kings” of Italian wines made from the Nebbiolo grape, along with Dolcetto and Moscato d’Asti. Local tables feature agnolotti del plin, Barolo-braised beef, tajarin with ragù and, when in season, the precious white truffle from Alba, shaved over every dish. To finish on a sweet note, there are the famous PGI Piedmont hazelnuts, featured in desserts and chocolate — a region where every ride becomes a true culinary experience!
🧭 Terrain: The routes of our Langhe Grand Tour wind along high-quality paved roads, with continuous climbs and descents through endless vineyards — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014. The terrain is hilly, never flat but never extreme, making it perfect for road cycling enthusiasts!
🎮 Extra Activities for Non-Cycling Guests: The Langhe have plenty to offer those who prefer to stay off the bike! Enjoy visits to historic wineries with guided tastings, truffle-hunting experiences with local trifolau and their dogs, and explore charming villages such as Barolo, La Morra and Neive. Discover Grinzane Cavour Castle and the WiMu – Wine Museum in Alba. From food and wine shopping to Michelin-starred restaurants, every day offers new discoveries for non-cycling guests too!
