The tour at a glance
Looking for a cycling tour in Sardinia that combines crystal-clear sea, wild interior and thousands of years of history?
Sardinia is one of the Mediterranean's most fascinating and surprising cycling destinations — roads winding along breathtaking coastlines, silent valleys and lunar landscapes dotted with mysterious ancient nuraghi.
Cycling in Sardinia means discovering an island that fiercely guards its authenticity!
Tour itinerary
We start with a Shake-Down-Ride: the perfect way to get to know each other, find the right rhythm, and get a feel for the terrain before diving into the heart of the adventure!
On day two, we set off from Buddusò for a loop to Bultei, through the first rolling hills of the Goceano region and views opening onto the Gallura hinterland — a first taste of Sardinia's most authentic side, far from the coast!
On day three we push on toward Osidda, immersed in cork oak forests and the pastures of the Buddusò plateau, surrounded by a silence only inland Sardinia can offer!
Day four is the one every cyclist dreams of: from Buddusò to Bitti, land of ancient customs, riding through the hills of northern Barbagia with views stretching all the way to the Supramonte!
On day five, we leave Buddusò for the transfer to Santa Maria Navarrese, where the inland landscape gives way to the Ogliastra coast and the blue of the Tyrrhenian Sea — a change of scenery that revives both legs and eyes!
On day six, from Santa Maria Navarrese, we head into the heart of the Supramonte with a loop to Urzulei, among limestone canyons, wild plateaus, and some of Sardinia's most iconic climbs!
Day seven closes in style with a ride to Lanusei, the capital of Ogliastra, climbing through terraced hillsides and chestnut woods up to one of the most beautiful panoramic balconies over the Gulf of Orosei.
Day eight is dedicated to the transfer to the airport and final greetings!
We hope these days among the stunning Sardinian landscapes will stay in your heart — we can't wait to welcome you back on the bike for your next adventure!
☀️ Climate and Best Time to Visit: Sardinia is a wonderful cycling destination from April to October, but for a tour that crosses the Barbagia hinterland and the Ogliastra coast, the ideal window is between May and June, or September and early October. During these months, temperatures at altitude in the Supramonte remain pleasant even at midday, while along the coast the summer heat gives way to perfect riding conditions, without the traffic of peak season. September also brings golden light that sets the limestone canyons of Ogliastra ablaze — a sight worth the trip on its own!
🍷 Local Food and Wine: The inland region we ride through, between Barbagia and Ogliastra, is one of the island's most authentic areas for food and wine. From roast porceddu (suckling pig) to culurgiones filled with potato and mint, from pane carasau flatbread to sheep's milk cheeses aged in the caves of the Supramonte, to the bitter strawberry-tree honey typical of the Urzulei and Baunei areas. All paired with local wines — a robust and generous Cannonau di Sardegna, much like the land we ride through — the perfect way to end each stage in the saddle with the true flavor of this island!
🧭 Terrain: The routes of our Sardinia Grand Tour run on good-quality asphalt, alternating valley-floor roads through the hinterland with demanding, scenic climbs toward the plateaus of Barbagia and the Supramonte, with significant elevation gain especially on the Bitti and Urzulei stages. Varied terrain that rewards riders looking for both steady inland roads and the challenge of Sardinia's climbs!
🎮Extra Activities for Non-Cycling Guests: There's plenty for non-cyclists too! The Supramonte offers spectacular hikes to canyons and caves like Su Gorroppu, the coast at Santa Maria Navarrese features hidden coves and the famous Pan di Zucchero rock formation, while the villages of Barbagia — Bitti, Orgosolo with its murals, Lanusei — invite you to discover local traditions, craftsmanship, and local cuisine!
